I get a glimpse of you,

a heartbreaking picture of

misery and abjection

Ornamenting

A corner of the room,

my favorite corner of the room.

You held your knees

close to your

heaving chest,

phalanges tight around your ebony ankles,

your knuckles white at your occasional fist clenching

You held your head loosely against

the cold cement and I see you

wet your cheeks again,

a routine during the time we spend together,

my favorite time of the day.

Sometimes I could hear you

through my insensitivity

moaning,

which then turns to quiet sobbing,

and then to apathetic breaking down.

Your cries were as hollow as your eyes.

It is all noise, gibberish in language

but it is the most beautiful noise in the world;

the frightening beauty that is your voice,

my favorite noise in the world.

I find you endearing, my love.

You and what transpires in that

corner of this room,

of this world,

my world.

I wish I could put my arms around you and feel you

warm against my hard exterior,

and in a guff,

blow you away.
